Pongal Festival 2017
‘Pongal’ is a Harvest Festival celebrated in January. Primary 4 students went on a learning journey on 12 January to the Harvest Festive Village in Little India held in conjunction with the Pongal Festival. The objective of this activity is to educate our students on the origins and the customary practices of Pongal Festival and provide our students with enriching experiential activities which extend beyond the classroom. Students participated in station activities such as ‘Thoranam’ tying; learnt how Pongal is made; watched a puppetry show on the story of Pongal. They participated in the folk dance demonstrations. They also had the opportunity to visit a mini animal farm. They visited shops selling Pongal items and learnt about the things needed to celebrate the festival.
